What will you defend?
I will defend my country as this is where I have grown up in. Singapore is where I will live in the future and we must protect it for our future generations. That is why every Singapore must go for National Service to do their part in protecting Singapore from foreign attacks and terrorist invasion.
I will defend for my family and friends which have given me the necessary support and help me grow up.

Quote from Ong Ding Sen: "In times of crisis, I will strive to defend my country as it is where i grew up it is an important place to me, my family as they are the most important people to me and I do not wish to see anybody get hurt and I will defend my life."

I agree with Ding Sen, I will protect everything that is important to me.

the thing I will defend in times of threat and danger
1) my family
2) my friends
3) my virtues

my family comes first without any exceptions , along with my friend as without them life is hardly worth living, and no mater what it is always good to keep our virtues , as it defines us , but in these dire days, threats and dangers are so great, there is little we can do to help, men can only do so much to solve big problems such as new viruses and global arming and so on. and all hopes are place in God, there is not much we can do. but things that we can do must be done and done right as god always uses small things to confront the mighty.

On Xin Kai's post:
I agree with Xin Kai that protecting our family is important. Without our family, we would not have their support and care, that have helped us to become what we are today. I also agree that protecting our school is important. The time we have spent in school have certainly taught us how to live life to the fullest, how to be a good person and how to be able to contribute to society.

My views:
I would defend my family, as they are the ones who have provided and taken care of me all these years. Without them, I would not be what I am today. If they are not around, i would also not have anyone so close to me, to share with them my cares and concerns, and how to overcome any problems I may have.
I would also defend my religion, by protecting my church. My church is where I am able to learn more about God and how to be a good Christian. Without God, I would not even be born into this world. It is also thanks to God that I am able to do well in my studies. Hence, I would protect my church so that i would still have a place to worship and give praises to God.
I also feel that defending my country is very important. Singapore is my homeland, I was born here and this is where I have stayed and grown in for about fourteen years. I would never desert my home. I would protect Singapore and preserve our heritage and our own unique way of life.

What will i defend
I will defend those around me with sentimental value, such as my family members and close friends, for nothing will ever be able to replace them if they are gone, therefore it would be better that i cherish them while they are still alive, rather to only realise that when they are gone, which is too late. My parents ecspecially, as they were the ones who have provided for me over all these years, and it is natural of me to repay them by defending them, just like i know they would do their best to protect me. I would also defend my country, as this is where i spent my whole life in, and propably where i would want to spend the rest of my life in, and i feel that i should do my part in protecting it.

Quote from joseph: Firstly, I would defend myself first, not because I am selfish or whatsoever. In order to defend my family an friends, I must, first of all, be able to defend myself, other wise, if I could not defend myself, and want to defend others first, I might lose my life before even going to the next level of protecting my family and friends.

I quite agree with joseph on this as if a person is not even able to fend for himself, surely, he would not even be able to defend others. Therefore i think that before we defend others, we must learn to protect ourselves first.

I would be feeling worse when those that are important to me get hurt rather than me getting hurt.

I agree with Brendan: I would defend my country at all costs, but not at the risk of my own life, because if I get hurt, I would not be able to defend my country and the consequences might be disastrous.

I will defend for my family, my friends and future citizens of the county.
First and foremost, I'll defend my family becasue they took care of me for fourteen years.
Secondly, I'll defend my friends because they are the most important things in my life after my family.
Lastly, I'll defend the future citizens as I want them to enjoy the beautiful garden city that our forefathers worked hard to create.

I agree with Ding Sen's post, in that first and foremost, we have to defend the most obvious thing, our lives. I also strongly agree with Ding Sen that we should defend our family members. They are the ones who are biologically similar to us, and as Ding Sen mentioned, "they are the few humans on earth that are close to me and knows me well

" Lastly, Ding Sen has mentioned something that I totally agree with, "I will also protect my dignity and values as I do not want to be a heartless person that will do anything to protect what he wants.
" I find that dignity and courage are the few qualities we should possess in order to survive through hard an difficult times.

Without my life I cannot do anything.

I would protect everything I have as they belong to me and I am responsible for it.

This means that I would protect my country if I could as i am living in it.

I will also protect my family members as they are the few humans on earth that are close to me and knows me well

Last but not least , while trying to protect everything I have, I will also protect my dignity and values as I do not want to be a heartless person that will do anything to protect what he wants.

2) This will be my first priority because my parents raised me up from young and looked after me for fourteen years. Without them, i will not even be born to this world. They have showered me with care and concern since young so now it is my turn to protect them.I cannot be unfilial as it is one of the worst things anyone can do. As for my friends, they helped look out for me and help me when i am in trouble and help me in my studies when i am unsure. Thus, i must do the same for them as i cannot be ungrateful and ignore them.

i agree with you Wen Liang. Singapore is where we were born and our ancestors worked hard to build Singapore to what it is now. If we do not defend it, we will be putting all of our ancestors' effort to waste. I agree that is it important to protect your family. Their are many others out there who would also defend their families. I would defend my family too. How about your relatives who do not stay with you or you grandparents. Will anyone defend them when it is time. What i am trying to say is defending is not only about defending your family it is about defending everything around you. Country ,neighbours , friends all those people are worth defending too.

I would defend everyone whom is around me who i can get my hands on. Not only my family, but my country, they are all worth defending. I will do whatever it takes. Singaporeans should have the commitment and confidence in our country. If no one has the commitment to protect the country the city will crumble. Everyone will be equally selfish, they would only care for themselves. We have to help each other out and take responsibility in our acts to protect what is ours; to seek to be left in peace; to progress and prosper in a unique way, as a nation. When our country is in trouble it is not only the responsiblity of the Armed Forces or the Navy it is the responsibility of the whole entire nation. People of different races should work together, people of high status should work together with people of lower status, people must respect each other as well as provide equal opportunities for all regardless of race, language or religion. The civil defense should be on guard helping others to make sure that life goes on in times of need. Defence needs a lot of cooperation and a good working attitude with constant upgrading of one's skills. There are five different aspects of defence that we all should have psychological defence, social defence, economic defence, civil defence and military defence. We all should have these five aspects to progress as a nation.

I would like to comment on what Gerard Peng (28) 2D wrote on his posts. He said that he would like to protect his radio and extra batteries. I agree with him as by tuning in to the latest news, it can help him know how safe his family is and whether it is a safe place. Also i think that it is an odd item to protect as during a crisis, most people would just start to panic. They would just find places to take shelter and keep themselves safe. For people who remember to bring radios that will keep them posted on the latest news, they must be really calm minded and not rash.

I think that defending your caourage and dignity is wrong.Firstly, you can't defend your courage but rather gather up your courage. At a point of crisis, you would definitely be courageous if you want to defend your peers rather than hide at a corner. Therefore, there is no need to defend it as it will come instinctively if you want to protect your peers with your life.

What I'll defend and protect
1) In times of crisis i will defend my   family, friends, country and myself.
2) Family is always the most                 important to many people, my               family has always been there to             support and encourage me in                 whatever i do. They are constantly         concerned about me and they all             hope that i will grow up to be a fine       man.
Friends appear in our lives                     everyday. They are always there to         share happiness and joy with us.           Also friends cheer us up when we are   feeling down. In return we are also       always there for them.
The country that i was born in is my     birth country. I am so lucky to be           able to be born in a country like             Singapore where education is great,       the food is excellent and more. As a       form of gratitude, i would like to           protect my homeland in times of           crisis and danger. i would like to           keep it from danger, to protect it.
Last of all, i would protect myself.         Survival is one of the most                       important things on this planet. We       survive everyday so that we can see       tomorrow. We survive bad days so         that we can live to see hope                     tomorrow. I personally do not want       to die without accomplishing                   anything in life, it would be such a         shame. So i definitely would protect     myself.

Even if you encourage your friends and family to be courageous and not to give up in times of crisis and threat, but you do not defend them, you never know what may happen to them, and they may not be around to applaud your courage.

Personally, i would protect my family and friends, because, no matter what happens during periods of crisis and threats, they are the ones whom you can depend on for encouragement and support, they are the ones who pack our parachutes and push our swings.

I strongly believe that the most significant thing to defend and uphold during hard and threatening times is our courage and dignity. Without these important values, how are we going to be able to survive, and fight through difficult times? I believe that courage and dignity are a main key to success in whatever the situation may be. On top of defending these essential qualities, we also have to defend our loved ones, as we know deep down that they will do the same for us. With our loved ones by our side, and with the courage and strength we possess, the chances of getting through our endeavors are extremely high.

(From Bryan Chai)
I will protect my Religion and my God because He has given me EVERYTHING, My Family, Friends and Country. It is all thanks to Him that I am still alive and well. I will protect my view of Him and of my Religion, and I will protect my Faith in Him just as He has EVERLASTING Faith in me. It is also because of his AMAZING Love, Grace and Forgiveness that still spurs me on.

(From Ashley Lim)
----- You can protect your religion, but it is not you who protect your God, but it is your God who is protecting you, in life everything there is a purpose even if you lose your family or friends there must be a purpose in it, but there is one thing you got to trust in is your own God which I agree with you one protecting your faith in him.

I do not agree with the first part in Ashley's comment, because it is, in fact, possible to protect or defend your God. One way is, that if others insult your religion, you are kind of able to defend your religion by making them stop insulting it, and in that way, it might be counted as defending your religion.
However, I agree with the second part of the comment. Even when God chooses to bring your family or friends up to heaven, he has a purpose for you, and he also has a reason for whatever thing he does, be it good or bad.

In order to defend my family an friends, I must, first of all, be able to defend myself, other wise, if I could not defend myself, and want to defend others first, I might lose my life before even going to the next level of protecting my family and friends. "
I agree with him because it is true that without your life, or your health, you wouldn't be able to protect your loved ones and your country at 100%.

What will I defend?
Q1) I would defend:
      -my family
      -true friends
      -my bible and rosary
because they helped me in my life.
Q2) Firstly, I would defend my family members as they are the closest to me and I love them as they took care of me, gave birth to me, consult and console me. We lived together for many years and learnt how to care and protect on another.
Secondly, I would also protect my friends as they helped me when I am in need or in trouble. We know each other very well. We work together, we help one another, care for one another, and many more.
Lastly, the bible and rosary because they are the objects to give me faith and courage to carry on when I am in a crisis. It also helps me to pray to God. God helped me when I and in trouble or desperate need. He guided me through these years and I should be grateful to him.

What will you Defend?
I am Joseph Wong (14) of sec. 2D.

1. What do you hold most dear in life such that you would strive to protect and defend in times of threat or crisis?

I would, if I could, defend my family and friends if I could, and I would defend myself too, because I find them the dearest to me in times of needs, as I find them the best in my life, other than God himself.

2. For the above question, state three different aspects and include in your responses, why you think these specific aspects are important to you.

Firstly, I would defend myself first, not because I am selfish or whatsoever. In order to defend my family an friends, I must, first of all, be able to defend myself, other wise, if I could not defend myself, and want to defend others first, I might lose my life before even going to the next level of protecting my family and friends.
Secondly, I would want to defend my family, because my family had been taking good care of me till 14, and even so, they are still taking care of me. They are the only ones whom have stayed by me during my entire life, other than God himself. Who would not want to defend their family will be, to me, an unfilial person.
Thirdly and lastly, my friends are also very important to me, as they would always be there for me whenever my parents are not around. I also share my happiness and sadness with them, and they would be a good friend by listening to me. They can be counted as my second family, so I will also want to defend them.

Quoting From Xinkai: I just find a motivation and reason to try and best and get a good job to give money to my parents and let them enjoy life.

I find that XinKai View from this point is very good as we should be filial to our parents.

I will defend um...

I will definitely defend my family and friends cause they are the most important thing to me in the whole world. As a filial son I must do my part and defend my parents with all my strength. They were the ones who gave me food, shelter, taught me how to be the person I am today and gave me my education. My friends are very important too. I will defend them as much as i can and i know that they will do the same. Finally, I should defend the people of my country. So many young citizen, who are just growing up, lives are at stake. Their lives could change depending on how much i give in to defend my country.

Quoting from Amos "I find that what Bryan says is partially untrue. People have their point of view on how the fare their parents with their family"

I agree with Amos. Peoples point of view and their opinions should be respected all the time. Some may have grown up more closely with their friends. Putting your parents as the first priority is alright but that does not mean you cannot defend your friends too. If it was me, I would try very hard to defend both of them, but when it matters most, I would choose my parents.

1. I would Defend my Family, Friends
and My Own Life.

2. I would defend my Family because they are the people, who have given me support in what I do everyday. They are the people who brought me up to be who I am, without them, there wouldn't be me. Thus, I would protect them as a Thanks for bringing me up and supporting me whenever I need it.

I would protect my friends because there are the people who accompany me and spend time and support me just like my own family. They are the people who help in work and many other things. I would be lonely without them and thus I would protect them.

I would protect my own life if I am unable to protect the my family and my friends because they are the people who give me the support and help me develop in life. I can't let them down by surrendering my life because I have lost my family and friends.

Quoting from Bryan Chai:
2iii) I will protect my Religion and my God because He has given me EVERYTHING, My Family, Friends and Country. It is all thanks to Him that I am still alive and well. I will protect my view of Him and of my Religion, and I will protect my Faith in Him just as He has EVERLASTING Faith in me. It is also because of his AMAZING Love, Grace and Forgiveness that still spurs me on.

----- You can protect your religion, but it is not you who protect your God, but it is your God who is protecting you, in life everything there is a purpose even if you lose your family or friends there must be a purpose in it, but there is one thing you got to trust in is your own God which I agree with you one protecting your faith in him.

Xin Kai's answer of first part of question 2:
"My family, without them teaching me and helping me I could and would not get to where I am so it is important to return the favour and help them back"

I totally disagree with the later part of his answer in which you said that "so it is important to return the favour to help them back"

First of all, You owe your parents a living for bringing you up, for providing food, good education and love to you. You don't "return a favour" to your family, you only return favours to your friends. It is important that you realise that Family is way more important then friends. Hence, you must change your point of view.

What Will I Defend
Hi, I am Bryan Chai Jia Hao from 2 Dominic Register No. 8

1. What do you hold most dear in life such that you would strive to protect and defend in times of threat or crisis?

Answer:

There are 3 particular things I hold which are very important to me. My Country, My Family & Friends and My God. For these 3 things, I would go to any and every extend to protect what is dear to me. If not, in my opinion, I would have betrayed them.

2. For the above question, state three different aspects and include in your responses, why you think these specific aspects are important to you.

Answer:

2i) I will protect my country, Singapore, because you must always remember your roots wherever you go. My roots are in Singapore, I grow, I learn and I am nourished in this land therefore, I owe Singapore my Loyalty and my Life.

2ii) I will protect my Family and Friends because they have supported and encouraged me when I am weak, stand by me when I am alone and prevent me from falling, they care for me and they love me. I will protect them because without them, I would not be where I am today.

I agree with Xinkai too. If it would be me, I would also protect my family because they had brought me up, in education food or in anyway. I would protect Singapore as it is my home and if Singapore would be gone, where would i stay! I would also protect the bank if anyone tries to rob it or something as inside there is my money.

I agree with Xin Kai, protecting your family members is important, its true that without them you are not what you are today.
1) I would protect my family members, friends and my house as that are important to me
2) My family members and friends had gone through thick and thin with me and I feel that protecting them come first as if they didn't exist, I would not be where I am today, I must protect my house as it is extremely important because my parents had put in a lot of effort in buying and renovating the house. If it were to be destroyed, I'm sure they would be sad and disappointed

What will you defend
1)I would choose to protect my family then in turn would lead to protecting Singapore so to protect my family I would have to protect Singapore and that is what i will defend
2)
i)My family, without them teaching me and helping me I could and would not get to where I am so it is important to return the favour and help them back

ii)My school, they hold memories, many different types of memories and that is where i spend years of my life there and they also taught me to be where i am now so it is definitely important

iii)Singapore, is where i stayed for my whole life and have never left it for more than 2 months. It has also nurtured and protected me so that is why it is very important to protect Singapore

Different people have different views. I just find a motivation and reason to try and best and get a good job to give money to my parents and let them enjoy life. I can also spend more time with them. And you cant just force someone to change their point of view to suit yours. If someone could there would be no conflicts or wars and hence different people's views are different.
